Jobs With the invention of the Internet, the job search has become easier for job seekers who know exactly where to look for a job. Unfortunately, while searching for a job online can be an excellent tool, many job seekers don't know exactly where to look or exactly how to get started. Although there may be a few obvious places to search online for jobs, there may be a few other ideas that don't seem so obvious to a new Internet user or a new job seeker. Online Search Engines Of course one of the most obvious places to begin looking for a job is through online search engines. While these search engine websites offer job seekers a listing of potential jobs throughout the country, they also offer job seekers the opportunity to post a resume. Many will also offer advice and articles related to the job search. Keep in mind, though, that the downfall to these websites is that while many of these search engines will post jobs from nationwide or large corporations doing a major job search, many smaller hometown corporations or companies are not posting their open jobs this way. Online Newspapers While it seems that the print newspaper is going out of style, this hasn't stopped the growth of online newspapers. Publishers recognize this and have begun offering employers the opportunity to post vacant jobs online. The upside to searching for a job here is that daily print newspapers used to wait until Sunday to announce new jobs, while the online newspaper will post them as soon as an employer submits an entry. This means never having to wait until Sunday to find new jobs. Another plus side of online newspapers is not carrying around a bulky newspaper, crossing out jobs as you go. Instead, job seekers can create a profile, log in and just save jobs and can even print out a list when they are ready to begin calling potential employers. Company Websites Many job seekers new to the Internet may not even consider going directly to the company or corporation website to look for a job. If there is a certain company in your area that you think would have jobs available for your career or area of interest, it is a safe bet to go directly to their website. Often companies will post job vacancies to their own company websites before they will go about advertising through search engines or newspapers. The best way to search online through a company website is simply to do a search for the company website. Once you have found the site, most companies will have posted a small link titled "employment opportunities" or "jobs with us." This will list any current positions they might have available. Association Websites Many online job seekers never consider to look directly in a members online association website. These are usually professional organizations that will post available jobs in a particular field. The jobs will almost always only be available for members to view, although signing up to become a member doesn't usually require a fee, only to fill out an information form and create an identity and a password. Other associations to consider are Alumni Online websites for schools you may have attended. Most technical colleges, community colleges and 4-year universities have Alumni websites. Many companies will provide information to colleges that will in turn post this information on their sites for alumnus. |
